Planning for instruction

Teaching engaging and effective lessons is a top priority in my classroom. I am fortunate to work at a school that places significant emphasis on collaborative planning. I work with the five other first grade teachers at my school to long term plan based on common core standards, make logically sequenced unit plans, as well as student focused daily lesson plans. Planning for instruction ensures my classroom is a space where students learn material that is appropriatly challenging for them at a pace that is appropriately challenging for them.

lesson planning

Lesson planning involves creating engaging and enriching lessons to help students master skills and standards

The three methods of planning discussed in this section ensures my instruction is appropriate for curriculum goals, based in assessment data, and able to be adjusted as needed. Starting with a long-term plan that allows me to think of the big picture sets my planning up for success as I dig deeper into each of the specific skills and lessons I need to teach. My lessons plans create opportunities for multiple points of access to the material to ensure the diverse needs of my learners are met and all students are able and excited to engage in the lesson.
